Omuu understands the importance of protecting our planet. This is why we strive to break boundaries in sustainability and conservation. Omuu is constantly researching new ways to reduce its carbon footprint on the world, one paw at a time!
Sustainability
"The truth is: The natural world is changing. And we are totally dependent on that world. It provides our food, water and air. It is the most precious thing we have and we NEED to defend it."
Sir David Attenborough
Broadcaster, biologist, natural historian and author
We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from ourchildren.

The petfood industry is responsible for over 64 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions every year.
64000
Every single second an area the size of a football pitch of forest is lost because of deforestation.

In the last 40 years our planet has lost 60% of all life. It is estimated that up to 150 species are lost every single day.
5 reasons why insect protein is better than traditional meat
1. Environmental Footprint
How does insect farming compare with cattle and chicken farming?
Lets compare how much land & water is needed to produce 1kg of protein and how much CO2 is produced as a consequence:

2. Natural Recycles
The black soldier fly larvae are some of earth’s best natural recyclers. They are fed on clean food waste (fruit and vegetables) which would have otherwise been destined for landfill. Their by-products are even used as fertiliser to grow more vegetables. Insect Protein is a form of circular farming. Nothing goes to waste.
3. Ethically Farmed
As consumers we like to source free range (if you eat animal products). We don’t always get this choice when we feed our pets, which are usually fed the by-products of intensely farmed animals.
The black soldier fly actually thrives in small spaces together. They prefer it like that. Unlike traditional farming, the larvae are slowly cooled to enter a state of hibernation before processing.
3. No antibiotics or growth hormones
Global antibiotic resistance is a major cause of concern. For years, traditional farming has used antibiotics as growth promotors or used antibiotics to treat certain infections caused by extensive farming. Insect protein is high in a fatty acid known as Lauric Acid.
This has been shown to have strong antimicrobial activity. No antibiotics or growth hormones are used in the production of black soldier fly protein.
4. Incredibly Nutritious
Insect protein has been shown to be a highly digestible protein source. It’s a novel protein, packed full of essential amino acids and perfect for dogs suffering from allergies.
Insect protein is also packed full of vitamins and minerals. It is even a natural source of glucosamine which helps protect your dog’s joints.
